Duo-Challenge
Joey's Weekly Challenge #222/ It's a String Thing #249
featuring Maryhill, Diva Dance Rock and Roll and Abeko
This weeks Duo-Challenge marks the end of the Joey/IAST combos as Joey has sadly announced that she's hanging up her challenge hat. I just want to give a huge shout-out to Joey, Laura and Adele for all of the challenge inspiration they've managed to put together week after week. I can't begin to imagine the work that goes into all of it and I'm so thankful for what they have meant to me and my art. So, many thanks to you Joey. You will be missed.
I had a lot of fun with the Duo-challenge. I love Maryhill! Those repetitive lines are so zen to draw. I drew the whole thing before I even knew what the IAST challenge was going to be. As I was working through the IAST portion yesterday I saw that Lily Moon had just posted a gorgeous gallery of her month in art and as always I'm mesmerized by her work. One of her pieces featured black Pokeleaf. Pokeleaf is one of my Mac 'n Cheese patterns and I've never done it in black...so I had to give it a go. I love it! Thanks Lily!
The Diva is on a much needed hiatus right now, so I'm thinking about ways to keep up with my own tangling practice and stay connected.
I always have the Travelling Tangles...
My finishes...
...to this fun bundle of starts from Saf Patel
travelling all the way from the UK;-)
My finishes...
...to these super cool starts from Lin Laidler
I'm always happily overwhelmed by the generosity of my Travelling Tangles peeps and the abundance of happy mail I receive from each one.
My collection as of last week
This pile is only from the past two months

I finally got started on my Travelling Tangles Mixed-Media Junk Journal or the TTMMJJ as it shall be known from here on out. Ohmigosh! This is so much fun and a complete time-drain;-)
I've started with a couple of sets of hand-sewn signatures comprising of a mish-mash of textured cardstock, maps, ledger paper dyed with coffee and stamped with coffee rings, hotel stationary, old Christmas card envelopes that I've painted and stamped and stenciled...well...junk!
This is the above page with the envelope flipped out. All of the cards, notes and envelopes are collaged or sewn into the signatures. Ultimately, I'll attach the signatures and bind them into a book.
Thanks so much for stopping by! Your thoughtful and generous comments delight and inspire me. If you're not doing so already, I encourage you to follow me by email or add Coffee & Creativity to your blog list so you know when I post (usually every Wednesday or Thursday) as we won't have the challenge links to keep us connected.
Your Duo is wonderful. I hope you can find another way to keep these going.
ReplyDeleteYour journal for your swaps is stunning. So vibrant, truly zinging with the collected energy of those swaps. Such a creative way to treasure them.
Thanks Jem! The journal is a fun way to use up all of the bits and pieces people send along with their swaps and I think I'll get more use out of it as inspiration for subsequent swap starters. It is fun to look at.
DeleteI have to agree with Jem, my absolute fave is also your Duo with a fantastic drawn Maryhill but your TTMMJJ looks so pretty and it will always stay a wonderful memory of all your swapping pals!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ria! I will have to figure out another Duo companion for IAST.
DeleteAll of your work is wonderful, Michele! I like all your tiles. But my favorite again also is your gorgeous duo tangle. Pokeleaf in black is a very elegant highlight to your beautiful drawing!
ReplyDeleteYour duotange idea shouldn't be finished now. Maybe you can find another combination to Adele's challenge. I wish you good luck for your ideas! I'll keep checking your blog, because I'm curious, in which direction your duotangle and your other work could develop. Best regards from Germany!
Many thanks Margarete! Isn't that black Pokeleaf great!?! I was thinking I might go back and start at the beginning with IAST to combine with the new ones.
DeleteBeautiful work Michele, as always :-) I love what you did with Maryhill, and yes: all those ladies who are giving us challenges are doing a great job - and will be missed!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ilse! There's a saying "When one door closes, another one opens"
DeleteThese are wonderful tiles. I always enjoy your blog articles and follow each. I like the idea of going back and starting again with the duo challenges.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Pat! I've updated my blog list so I can see your posts in real time;-)
DeleteThe duo tangle page is once again my fav. However, I am not decided yet whether it beats last week's...but then the black Pokeleaves. OKAY, I got it: 50.00005 to 49.99995 for the black PLs. Close! I have started to visit and doing the Square One challenges. Maybe that could be a combo idea? One thing is for sure, you can't give up now that you have started this still running and ever increasing viewing craze among us. Waiting in suspense....
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Susie! Yes I'm pondering my new Duo-Challenge companion and may end up doing some Square One inspired as well as going back to the beginnings of both Joey's old challenges and the Diva's, sticking to pattern based prompts-maybe draw them out of a hat?
