Journals to the People: Angel (or Holiday #3)

 

I have been hoarding this image forever. It was from the cover of a Common Ground magazine, a free publication that I found in my neighborhood coffee shop.

This is another Christmas themed journal for The Marketplace at Nevermore Creations. These journals will be shown on Lindsey Zenor's YouTube channel and listed in her shop sometime in November.

Journals to the People: Poinsettia (Holiday #4)

 

I think this is my favorite.

This started off as a manila file folder that I collaged with a bunch of images from the digitals as well as sheet music and book pages. Then I attacked it with my mixed media arsenal.

There are about 64 pages front and back between the two signatures. The idea is to accommodate a months worth of double page spreads if one wanted to do December Daily.

I had a lot of fun making the ephemera. In addition to the challenge digitals, I added some Artymaze.

Journals to the People: Christmas in October

Whew! If this wasn't the challenge to beat all challenges. The October challenge journals for Nevermore Creations Marketplace is Christmas themed.

Truth be told I'm not a great fan of the holiday season in general. I don't like the dark. I don't like the commercial bombardment and I don't like the pressure, among other things. This year it appears I 

might get a free pass on all of that...well, except for the shorter days.

Anyhoo, I decided to challenge myself and do my best to embrace The Challenge. I took it one journal at a time and looked to explore some new ideas. Six journals later. Done. Yaaay! I have to say this was quite a feat because my Christmas stash is next to nothing.

I made 3 four paneled Travelers Notebook sized books (inspired by Rosemary Morris), 2 "standard" sized ( 5 I/2" x 8 1/2) and the last one was a total experiment, making a cover from a Christmas gift bag with the idea of it being along the lines of a glue book ( light embellishing). That was hard because I love to embellish.

So I'm getting these off to the post office tomorrow and though I keep telling myself I need to move on to the journals I'm making as gifts, I'm seeing a lot of videos that are inspiring me all over again. We shall see...

Journals to the People: Holiday #2

 Here's another "Outta My Comfort Zone" holiday themed double wide Travelers Notebook style journal for the October Marketplace Challenge at Nevermore Creations.

This one was made from a standard manila file folder collaged and painted and stenciled. One of  the digital images was this lovely Winter scene. Each spine is reinforced with a strip of muslin stenciled with an abstract music bar.

Journals to the People: Holiday #1

 

I'm going waaaayyyy out of my comfort zone this month, creating holiday themed journals for Lindsey Zenor's Marketplace October Challenge. They will be shown on her You Tube channel and listed through November, created from a list of 7 digitals from her shop and each journal must feature three.

I generally don't do themes and definitely don't do holidays as my stash doesn't support it and I've never had a use for holiday themed journals.

After spending hours and hours on You Tube, a video from Rosemary Morris popped up last week featuring a flip thru of a group of double wide Travelers Notebook style journals she was putting in her Etsy shop. That was the jumping off point for this and others I have in the works.

I have a lot of this batik cotton and it's the closest thing I have that remotely speaks to Christmas.

So...this is my first ever Christmas/December Daily journal.

I've never done December Daily so my understanding of it is the book should have the capacity to hold 31 double facing pages so that one can create a full page spread a day.

There are two signatures, one on each of two spines. Each signature has about 8 sheets of paper which in total make 64 pages front and back. There are a bunch of tags that can be journaled on as well.

I only decorated very sparsely because the recipient needs their own space to work.
