Diva Challenge #322, Made by Joey #171 and other stuff...

Diva Challenge #322
"Aquafleur"

I managed to pop into Laura's stream Sunday night while I was on a break at work and got the gist of this. Aquafleur is one of those patterns I don't use unless I'm challenged to. I have a hard time figuring out what to do with it. I have to say that I enjoyed drawing this and I love the dimensional quality of the wrapping ribbon effect. It could so with some further exploration.

Finish My Tile Alphabet Series: "Z"
featuring: Zonked
additionally: Zazzy

And there it is... A-Z done! What a fun series. These are bijou tiles I originally intended to use as page headers in my pattern collection binder. I've since re-organized it by pattern type so for the time being, they're a neat page in my book.

"C-perfs" on a C-perf string

Adele Bruno celebrates 200 weekly challenges this week. What an accomplishment! Adele's challenges are unique in my small group of weekly blog challenges. Rather than submitting via link,  she receives the weekly submissions via e-mail and then posts the weekly gallery on her blog, so there's always that element of anticipation and reward to see how others resolve the sometimes extremely challenging challenges. Working within the confines of a string doesn't appeal to everyone and there's what I call "fitting square pegs into round holes" when the selected patterns don't seem to want to play nicely with the string at first. There's much satisfaction in making it work
Each week Adele comes up with a string/pattern combo and then generously comments on each submission. That's a lot of work and dedication! I'm guest blogging on Joey's Challenge on July 10 and I twirled around several half-baked ideas to come up with one challenge. To do it every week? Yikes! so Kudos to you Adele! And Laura! And Joey! All of you rock!

These are the Travelling Tangles I completed in the last week.

my finish to...

...the first of 3 lovely starters
by Jem Miller travelling all the way from West Sussex in the UK

my finish...

...to the 2nd of Jem's lovely starters

my finish...

...to the last of  Jem's 3 amazing beginnings

It's hard to believe I've been involved with this amazing group for a year now and it never ceases to inspire me. Between personal swaps, the random partnering for the monthly themed swaps and Jem's generosity for sending me multiple tiles with each exchange, I have completed more tiles from her than anyone. Every one of them pushes me out of my comfort zone. We have completely different styles and her line work is so precise and fluid and her backgrounds are amazing. Jem has a great blog called The Ragged Ray. Check it out if you haven't already

my finish...

...to this flowery beginning by Lin Laidler

I love it when folks send me official tiles to work on. I don't have the bandwidth or budget to get my mitts on these tiles so it's always such a treat to put my pen to them.  I always complete my travellers in the order I receive them so it was serendipitous to relax with Lin's tile in the end.

My "92 Days" project of daily drawing prompts from the Facebook group, Tangled and Journaled, Too!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Your thoughtful and generous comments delight and inspire me!

  3. Thank you for such kind words about our swapping! I hope we have many more swaps to come! I have you to thank for persuading me into the scene!

Your Aquafleur is gorgeously flowing. And all your little letter tiles look wonderful en masse. I'll be sure to check out your guest post at Joey's.

I also love seeing your Journalling pages - I've started lurking on that group and am thinking about how and when to jump in.

    1. Many thanks Jem...for your kind words, your generous spirit and endless inspiration! I'm so glad you joined the travelling tangles adventure. The great thing about the Tangled and Journaled project is that all of the prompts are archived so you can jump in any time with any prompt really. Start with the current week and at the end of the summer go back and catch up? or just start at the beginning? It's really fun and such a great source of inspiration and exploration.

  4. I think I have short term memory loss by the time I move on a couple of tiles I'm so into them I forget everything else! Then you have the cat at the end and I'm all ahhhh so cute! I do remember I came via Joey's: great Z, we made it! Then I saw all your tiles and they relate so beautifully. Thank goodness I put mine all in a book so you can't see how disjointed they are. Nice aquafleur too :)

    1. Thank you Trudi! The Alphabet series came up at the exact moment I was trying to figure out how to use my pattern collection more effectively. I had a purpose and needed a way to make them stand out from the other tiles on the page, hence the black font against the brown, otherwise I would have ended up with a disjointed series too and that would have been just fine. Your submissions have all been gorgeous!

  5. What a lot of gorgeous tangling! It's so amazing to me how there seems to be no rhyme nor reason to which tangles resonate with which tangler and which don't. Your aquafleur colors work marvelously, and I always love your sparkles.

  6. Somehow I get cheated. How many hours do you have in a day? Must be a lot more than 24 with all the works you show us each and every week. If I would get so many TTs, I had a several meters high stack of unfinished tiles staring at me angrily. Letters: You had a marvelous idea making your letters match. Together on one sheet they make so much more sense. Fantastic set, Michele!!! TTs: my fav is the one from Lin Laidler.
Oh! Now I get it. You have a little secret furry helper!!!

    1. Thanks Susie! You are so sweet. I actually draw every day. Every morning over coffee. Around 2 hours a day. My apartment is a disaster LOL😉

  7. Your output is impressive in terms of both quantity and quality.
PS: I'm glad you know who's boss in your house. Resistance is futile.

  8. Not sure how you get so many tiles done in a week. I have trouble consistently completing the one. They all look great. I agree that Aquafleur can be a difficult tile to decide how to use. Would suggest you go to Margaret Bremner's blog, Enthusiastic Artist and look at what she did with it. Has a blog post on making Deciduous Trees.

  9. Oh, the colors you used for the aquafleur-tile are so beautiful! I really love your tile :-)

  10. I am retired and I can't even find two hours a day to tangle. You do such delightful work and I always enjoy a trip to your blog, especially to see your sweet kitty! Your Aquafleur is beautiful, and it's nice to see your completed alphabet!

  11. Gorgeous work Michele! I too think that Aimee must be somehow helping you complete this many tiles in a week!? lol Your alphabet collection is beautiful, I think it would make a beautiful poster in a child's room! Thanks so much for joining in each week!

  12. I love how Aquafleur is floating off the tile! How clever to use it with Sandswirl, which moves so fluidly. Your work with Jemm is glorious--you guys have a wonderful complementarity. I know what you mean about the official tiles. Tangling on them is such a sensual experience, the way the tooth grabs onto the ink and the graphite. Thanks for another inspirational blog! Now go give Aimee some lovin'!! If she's like my cat, there's never enough!
