Use My Tangle: Hamadox by Diana Schreur
I had a leftover hand painted zendala from a swap I participated in last year, I rarely work with colored pen in my initial line work and now I know why;-P
I'm not too crazy about the actual Hamadox center but I love everything else about it.
A Travelling Tangle Project
Beth Bentz sent me the paint spattered tile a while back
Hamadox seemed to want another chance
Additionally: "Elle" and "Beadlines"
Beth's wonderful start
Finish my Tile Alphabet Series: F
featuring Festune
additionally: Flez and Fat X
I'm adapting Joey's prompts for this series into Bijoux for my pattern library, so I've tweaked the font for consistency.
I've got a few Travelling Tangles to share:
This is my finish to Heidi Whitney's start
Heidi introduced me to a new pattern of hers called "Cypresses"
inspired by Van Gogh

My finish to another tile started by Heidi Whitney
This one had an interesting journey. The tonal paper is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I'm always up for a good challenge;-) After laying in the initial line work and adding a bit of shading with my new-ish brush pens, I felt done and took a picture of it:
I was not happy. It was lacking contrast, so I went in a little heavier on some lines and added more highlights...then the border...
...and it felt done. I took another picture and it still felt off. Funny how the distance of looking at something in a photograph changes ones perspective. So. To finish it off (finally) I shaded and highlighted the border and softened some edges with the lightest grey brushpen. Done? or Over done?
This was Heidi's start
I love how she finished this one!
and this one!
Good idea drawing Hamadox in a circle, and I love the green Hamadox for travalling tangle, it is wonderful
ReplyDeleteI really love the splatter tile!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tile. Not sure what you were looking at to not see a beautiful zendala. I like the tri-color. I agree that Hamadox fit well in the tile with the color wash. You used this very well.
ReplyDeleteThank you Donald! I guess I felt the center of the first one was flat compared to the light and shadow of the border...a bit heavy handed perhaps? of course looking at in retrospect, it's not so bad;-)
DeleteI do love both Hamadox tiles - and your other work of course. I'm always happy visiting your blog, knowing I'll see beautiful things :-)
ReplyDeleteMe too, love the two Hamadox-tiles but the second one is just amazing on that splash, congrats this is very special and I love it very much.
ReplyDeleteYour travelingtiles with Heidi are also very nice, yours and hers, all of them! It's always nice how you show us how the results are growing, thank you MIchele.
Thank you Ria! It's really quite funny how much I felt like I labored over the first Hamadox and then the second one just seemed to happen most effortlessly;-)
DeleteMichele... I love your splatter Hamadox! But your Hamadox zendala is terrific also. I love how you finished Heidi's first tile! Great composition! Amazing how you designed Heidi's second tile! Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour tiles are again so lovely. Even though you don't like your first Hamadox tile, I think it is beautiful, but the second one - WOW!
ReplyDeleteThat green Hamadox tile is stunning! I also like your Zendala. It's so fun to see what you do with the traveling tangles, and it was fun to watch the progression in the one from the Heidi. Beautiful work all around!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kate! The travelling tangles almost always push me out of my comfort zone. As I moved through the tonal tile all I could think of was my art teachers words "Contrast equals interest"
DeleteI can see no fault in your first Hamadox, but I am really drawn to the second one. You really used that color splat so that it just fits the tangling perfectly!
ReplyDeleteMichele, your work in general is always lovely and inspiring! I like both of your hamadox tiles... but the second is my favorite of the two. It was the perfect fit or the color and start of the tile. Gorgeous traveling tangles work as well!
ReplyDeleteall of these are yummy, but that green hamadox! wow! makes my eyes happy to look at it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Heidi! and thank you for this very inspiring collaboration. I'm still pondering the dark tile you sent;-)
DeleteGorgeous work!
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful zendala!!!
ReplyDeleteSo many beautiful tiles to share with us with us this week. My fav is the green splatter Hamadox.
ReplyDeleteThank you Miss L! That's my fave too;-) of course the painted tile was a show stopper on it's own. My discovery of a new-to-me pattern, "Elle" was the icing on that cake;-)
DeleteWow and double wow. You really went to town this week. I'm not going to comment on each one - the comments would be longer than the post- but I really do love your work To pick out possibly my favourite here, I love that hamadox on the splatty green. Don't know why I keep going back to look at it but I do. Thoroughly enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Margaret! It was a very interesting week in my studio/cafe with some struggles and triumphs. The green Hamadox was the great triumph;-)
DeleteWonderful work! I really want to look into Cypresses. Thank you for the inspiration! The green hamadox is indeed triumphal!
ReplyDeletePerfect artwork again, dear Michele! My absolute favourite is the second DIVA tile!

ReplyDeleteI'm back again. Are there any step-outs for Cypresses? Haven't been able to find them, or a page for Whitney. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHer blog is called Tangle Oh! She sent me a hand written step out so I don't think it's published. Try a search on her blog.
DeleteThanks so much! I'll have a look!
