Diva Challenge #318, Made by Joey Challenge#167 & Some Travelling Tangles

Diptych

I think this is a record for me, completing two challenges before noon on Monday. Thanks to the Diva's stream I got two pieces done last night.
Laura's challenge is to create a Diptych, two panels that loosely mirror each other and connect with a "hinge" or in this case, fold a tile or zendala in half, frame each half and tangle one half and then sort of mirror it on the other connecting the two halves with some type of "hinge".
There's a Kitchen Table Tangles video on the Zentangle Mosaic app that illustrates this concept, but I'm not a subscriber so I had no idea what this was. I didn't quite get the hinge part initially as I followed along with Laura last night. It wasn't until after I'd gone all "Knightsbridge" on the center, that I saw what she was doing...hence this next attempt where I took it a bit too literally;-)

Diptych Take Two: Renaissance

Finish my Tile Alphabet Series: V
featuring: Vano
Additionally: Voga

I had to tweak this one a little to keep it consistent with my series. I used a fragment of Vano in order to place it within the letter.

Recent Travelling Tangles I've completed:

My finish...

...to this delicate start from Tharina Etsebeth
travelling all the way from South Africa

My finish...

...to another of Tharina's lovely beginnings

This was a Mooka monotangle for the monthly challenge/theme. The shading is a bit... uhmnnn... dramatic. I learned a lesson about using Tombow pens to shade.
If you don't know your paper...just DON'T. The paper was gorgeous to draw on. It had a very fine tooth, but absorbed the marker so fast that I couldn't blend it out. Oh well;-)

...and of course what post would be complete without a kittypic;-)

Thanks so much for stopping by. Your thoughtful and generous comments delight and inspire me!

  1. Your art work is wonderful! I really love the one with knightsbridge! I also like your "take' on vano. I never considered using a fragment of it - awesome. Kitty is a cutie too!

  2. Your second Diptych just wowed me I really liked it AND you got your V from Joey's Challenge already done! I'm still thinking of V Tangles. Then we get to your traveling tiles, again just super work. I'm feeling like such a slacker now

  4. Look at you go Michele!! LOVE both your tiles! So dramatic your first one! Your second tile is perfect with the simple execution of your chosen tangles. Love the Huggins hinge!

Terrific Arukus finish to your travelling tangle. Lovely blue Mooka.

But of course.... the BEST is Miss Aimee! Too cute! She looks like she might be the boss of you! :)

    1. Thanks Deanne! It's kinda cool how the angle of the fold adds to the composition. When I lay either one down flat, they're not as interesting. I'm a bit addicted to Arukas lately and I find it's quite a nice solution to many of my Travelling Tangles...and Yes;-) Aimee is quite the bossypants, especially when she thinks I need to get my nose out of the sketchbook;-)

  5. Hi! What are you trying to say about Mooka, Tombow, and dramatic? It's great! Especially since you ended up "showcasing" the other persons work. You made her part seem like the main part.

    1. Thanks Tracy Marie! I'm still trying to get over that panic I felt when I drew that first line of shading LOL!

  10. Such lovely pieces. I do like the Knightsbridge as a kind of huge hinge down the center, and the second one so pretty! Always love a kitty photo :)

  13. The Knightsbridge in the middle of the first diptych adds a lot of drama. That tile worked really well, but the second one was a whole step up. Love the clubbed hinge in the middle. And the strong shading on the Mooka monotangle is fantastic. It gives real depth and dimension. Don't knock serendipity.

  14. That second diptych tile is fabulous - like a medieval door hinge. Stunning. I think you are a little over critical of the mooka swap tile. It's so dramatically 3D, it looks brilliant to me.

    1. Thanks Margaret! I'm almost recovered from the shock of the shading incident, which I can now refer to as a happy accident LOL😉

  16. Beautiful tiles. I like your Voga - I tried it, but it did not turn out well and decided to use other tangles.

  17. What a wonderful collection of Zentangled goodness! And your cat is adorable, too. I missed the whole hinge thing. I think I need to try to find the lesson on Mosaic.

  18. All fabulous, Michele. I always enjoy seeing your posts. Maybe my favorite is the knightsbridge/onamato down the hinge and around the border of your first diptych.

  19. I'm particularly fond of the second diptych, which I don't find too literal! Love the way you built up the Mooka! The TTPs are gorgeous, too. I really love the delicate splatters on the first one. Another inspiring post!
