Diva Challenge#305, Joey Challenge #154 and more...

Diva Challenge #305
DuoTangle: Marasu and Molygon

This weeks challenge is to use only 2 patterns, or a Duotangle in Zen speak. A duotangle can include multiple variations of each of the two tangles but I kept this one relatively simple. I  had a couple of watercolor zendalas I'd created for this month's traveling tangle swap and then forgot to sign up.
Anyhoo...I LOVE Marasu. Molygon is one of those patterns that challenge me much in the way that Tripoli does. It starts off okay but goes off-the-rails quickly. I kept a tight leash on it here, but I'm hoping to have another go at it.

Strings

These were the strings I started with

I started this page quite a while ago and just finished it. I've been following along with the Facebook group Zentangle: Tangled and Journaled Too, while they work through The Zentangle Primer. I don't have the book so I just look to what the others are doing and put my spin on it. I really love the back-to-basics, but the intense study of really just a handful of patterns, elevates the exercises to something even more inspiring when you push yourself to explore these patterns in depth.

Thanks so much for stopping by. Your thoughtful and generous comments delight and inspire me!

  1. Absolutely delicious in every way! Love your work, Michele. It's been too long since I checked things out via the Diva, but so glad I found time to pop over and enjoy your tangles here.

  2. Love the way that you combined these two and such luscious color too. I also have molygon that gets away from me, but you managed to contain this one beautifully.

    1. Thank you Kate! I really wanted Molygon to spill out of Marasu. In the spirit of the Primer studies, I've decided to keep exploring this challenge:-)

  3. That Zendala tile is amazing - the colours, design, everything - it sucks me in.

That 'Jump the Fence' piece is great too. I remember when first doing Zentangle - and feeling constrained by the border. Then I broke free. I work in or out of it now but rarely both - one to try!

  4. What a wonderful range of pieces. I too have been following the journals but don't have the primer. It's on my wish list and I do have a birthday coming up so I'll just have to hope for the best.

    1. Thanks Margaret! It's actually quite fun trying to figure it out without the book. I just don't buy books anymore in an attempt at downsizing, But I'd sure like to get my mitts on a copy just to admire it's beauty;-)

    1. Thank you Jean! I'm sure the book is amazing. I just can't justify the expense and the truth is, with an MFA in design, it goes against my nature to buy art instruction books at this point in my life;-)
