Diva Challenge #214~ Earth Day

The week seems to be getting away from me again between work related study and sketchy internet access, this may be the only challenge I complete.
I've been spending more time on the food blog I've sadly neglected for a few months now. I'm focusing on cheese cookery as I continue to pursue the next phase of my foodie career as a cheesemonger at the market where I work.
I found the painted watercolor paper last night as I was trying to tidy up my worktable. I was in need of a diversion while watching marathon episodes of "The Ghost Whisperer", I have a very limited selection of TV channels, but I love ION Television, because it's usually got Criminal Minds or Law and Order going on all the time.  I don't know which series The Ghost Whisperer usurped because I'd never seen it before. I'm on the fence...I couldn't get over the distraction of Jennifer Love Hewitt running around all over town looking like she's dressed to go to a party. I relegated it to background, waiting for something better to come on and I started drawing.
The watercolor wash made me think of water, somewhere just below the surface of a lake or river with a hint of sunlight. I started with Squid in the corner and just let the rest organically flow and grow.

Diva Challenge #213

I am the Diva Challenge #213~Traced Object String
My kitchen measuring spoons

This was a fun challenge. I may have found the new banner for my cooking blog. The challenge was to find an object or stencil and trace a string. Simple.

...and a few more challenges

Quib & Quare with a little Printemps

I had a somewhat leisurely morning at the cafe getting caught up on my challenges, in spite of a little ADD that seemed to threaten several not-quite-finished tiles. I had 3 tiles going on at the same time and each of them left me a bit dissatisfied. Maybe I was just forcing it a little too much. So here they are, for better and worse.
That's New to Me introduced Quib and Quare, both patterns I really liked. The color was a last minute addition.

This was a particularly difficult one for me to do this week. I don't know why. I'd practiced Fanz repeatedly, trying out a number of it's variations in my sketchbook but never felt inspired to get it off the ground.

Patterns: Loop & Brella

I like the way this turned out and really had to resist the urge to add some color. Loop is a really relaxing pattern to draw once you get the hang of it and I just wanted to keep it simple.

Thank you for stopping by. Your comments are appreciated and inspiring.

Alphabet Challenge #1 & Made by Joey #55

 Diane Clancy's Alphabet Challenge #1
Arukas, Borbz, Cat-kin
Made by Joey Weekly Challenge #55-Cat-kin

This was not in the plan this morning. I've been a bit pre-occupied this week and haven't had the time to attend to my weekly challenges. I've got two work-in-progress tiles that needed to be finished and  this weeks Diva challenge to start (and finish) by Saturday nights deadline.
I hit the cafe early this morning and somehow got derailed into Diane Clancy's new Alphabet Challenge. I was looking at some of the submissions and I was inspired by the color and something sort of clicked. I started sketching. I've been wanting to go into a slightly larger format with the idea of doing some greeting/notecard type of artwork. So the idea, for now, is to use this challenge as the prompt for some colorful cards.
I also incorporated this into this week's Made by Joey Challenge to use the pattern Cat-kin. I'm not certain whether or not I'll get the rest of the challenges finished.
I thought I'd share a couple of my sketchbook pages. I tend to spend a lot of time on the internet just looking at patterns and other artist's work trying to decide what patterns to use. I just randomly picked these three patterns and started the drawing within minutes of deciding to do the challenge.

It's a String Thing Challenge # 85 & Made by Joey #54

Its a String Thing Challenge #85
patterns used: Well-Mooka-Z, Well, Coaster and Co2
in Adele's Easter string

This was seriously a challenge. Adele introduced a pattern called "Well-Mooka-Z" by Sharyn Penna. I spent a great deal of time and frustration trying to wrap my brain and my pen around it, thinking ultimately, that I probably wasn't going to use it.
I started a Well in one corner and let it evolve. When I got to that last blank strip, I took a deep breath and went for it. Not particularly elegant, but not the train wreck I'd anticipated either.

Made by Joey Challenge week 54~"Dust Bunny"

This one got a lot busier than I'd anticipated. I added the color at the last minute to give it a little definition.

Thanks for visiting! I love your comments.
