Weekly Challenges and Travelling Tangles

Circle String series-B'twined

Tangle on the Move

Now this was a challenge indeed. The challenge is to tangle while in transit. Laura and her family have been on a road trip and she's been tangling in the passenger seat. The only travelling I'm doing this week is the bus to and from work. Not a smooth ride at all. I always carry my handmade pocket sketch book in my backpack and dug out a sharpie and gave it a shot. My bus ride is only 20 minutes and I don't always get a seat so I had one go at this then finished and shaded when I got home. I came thisclose to scrapping the whole thing about 20 times between start and finish but persevered. I kept thinking about a You Tube video I saw of a parent turning their young child's scribble into a lovely piece of art. That didn't happen:-P Not to mention that it made me nauseous so I know I won't be doing this again.

The bus part

Speaking of travelling...
...Travelling Tangles from this past week:
This was my finish to Michele Beauchamp's elegant start
all the way from Australia

My finish to Christel Foncke's start travelling from Belgium

My finish to Debra Myers start from Virginia

...and from my beginnings:
I sent this ATC to Stephanie Jennifer in Singapore

Stephanie finished with this great dimensional "Striping" and connected the dots;-)

I sent this watercolor "Y-flip" to Ragged Ray in the UK

Here's her fun finish

I sent this modified "Groovy"  to Susan Rink Olsen in Ohio

Here's her finish

This really is the coolest thing ever!

Thanks so much for visiting my blog. Your thoughtful and generous comments delight and inspire me!

  3. I'm glad you didn't trash your traveling tile. By the time you finished with the shading, it became quite dramatic although I can empathize with the discomfort you experienced trying to tangle on a bus. The "finishing" tiles are quite lovely. Was it your idea?

    1. I'll answer this one hahaha...there is a Facebook group "Traveling Tangles" where someone starts a tile, and then sends it to another artist, who finishes it. There are some AMAZING pieces coming from that endeavor. I don't know if Michele started it or not, but isn't her work wonderful.

    2. Thank you Suzanne! Stephanie Jennifer is the mastermind behind the Travelling Tangles Project Facebook group. You really ought to check it out. I warn ya though, once you start it's pretty addictive. It's such an awesome collaborative experience and who doesn't love getting fun stuff like this in their mailbox;-)

  4. I agree with Suzanne on how the shading really helped tie the tangles together. I get motion sickness when I draw on a bus, too. Train rides are much better for me.

I love the collab you did with Christel Foncke. :) Great to see tiles from Travelling Tangles again on your blog.

  6. Beautiful traveling tiles Michele, I'm so exited to have the possibily of joining this wonderful experience. My first traveling tile to the States is now already flying to San Francisco (posted yesterday)
The Diva's tile is different from your other work but also lovely. For me it is impossible to create something while I'm moving, that is why I'm not on the site this week. Thanks MIchele for showing us your beautiful inspiring work!

  8. Oh my, yummy as always! I can smell the coffee, on that supreme Joey challenge tile, and I just love the traveling tangles. Girl, you are prolific, and everything so extremely well done! I hear you on tangling while on public transportation 1) Motion sickness and 2) wobbly! but your turned out dandy. Shading really makes a difference.

    1. Thanks HeidiSue! You really should have a go at the Travelling Tangles Project. I like it because you can set your own pace as to how much or little you want to do. The value of having the original art of others in your hands is truly invaluable.

  10. Wow, what a joy to see all these glorious 'start-finish' tiles!! Love, love, love them all! I laughed to read about the lengths you went to to take part in the Diva Challenge...and yes, you shouldn't do it again if it makes you nauseous. However, the final version is lovely! Axxx

  11. Don't know quite what to say, except WOW! I love all of your tiles. Your Diva challenge tile is amazing; I sure can't tell that it was a bumpy ride. I probably won't be participating this week because I hurt my foot and can't get to public transportation and I'm the only one in the family that drives. Absolutely love the traveling tangles. I keep looking at those and thinking I maybe should try them. Keep up the great work...it's all fabulous!
