The Diva's challenge this week is to create a globular grid within a sphere and then tangle away. This was not an easy task for me and had many failed attempts at creating a grid that wasn't too wonky or too small. I traced my circle from a 4" coaster in my sketchbook. I liked that it gave me a little extra room so I decided not to use an actual zendala tile and just chose to keep it simple with black pen and graphite.
Made by Joey's Roman Numeral String Series continues with VIII and the patterns: 'Nzeppel, Crescent Moon, Fandango & Marnie. I did this on a pink watercolor ATC using brown calligraphy ink, black pen, grey marker and white Prismacolor pencil with a touch of white gel pen.
Later that day:
Happy Peaches
Much later that night or very early this morning:
It's a String Thing Challenge #140
Patterns: Hollibaugh, Copada and Pokeleaf
I started this late last night after I got home from work. I was assembling my drawing tools to bring with me to the cafe this morning and was pondering what I might need for Adele's challenge. I started to draw a few lines and before I knew it, it was 1:00 am...
Thanks for visiting my blog. Your thoughtful and generous comments delight and inspire me!
On the second picture, you have used beautiful colours but also using just black and white can be nice. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI love especially the batik-y look of your tangles on the top of the globe
ReplyDeleteThe Diva's challenge was amazingly tricky wasn't it. Well done with your globe, the bit on the right looks rather like a shell. Clever of you to use the V of Fandango to fit the V in the numeral, I didn't see that! Lovely tile and I like the pink with it.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant Fandango! OMG that is just so clever! I love your Diva as well, I can't wait to get started on that one, I think I do it bigger too, those blocks can get really tiny!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing your beautiful challenges!

Very beautiful composition !
ReplyDeleteAll your tiles are very beautiful. From the Joey one I learn that sometimes it is better to draw bigger.
ReplyDeleteOh no!!!! I've fallen in love with your String Thing entry....it's absolutely beautiful. And I haven't done mine yet! How COULD YOU, Michele, I simply can't improve on what you have done.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I love all your tiles here but that last one is just wonderful...nay, perfect. Axxx
Your use of colour is amazing, I just love it. It's all so different and yet you have a clear personal style. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love all your tiles. They are a great Inspiration to me.
ReplyDeleteI like the diva challenge it was abit tricky in the smaller areas around the edge wasn't it. I still really like your happy peaches atc 😁
ReplyDeletethe happy peaches make me so happy :) i love the coloring! and the globe is absolutly great!
ReplyDeleteThere is such a great balance in your globe! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did for the String Thing, how you intertwined the leaves and the other patterns. And the color is so rich! Have a brilliant day! Cheryl
ReplyDeleteI haven't done VIII or IAST yet, so I didn't peak! But the globular grid with calligraphy came out beautifully! That peach color wash is so warm with the brown, black and white. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm back! And WOW, loving your Fandango!! What a gorgeous rendition, Michele! I love the IAST, too, with those beautiful colors and their many shaded / highlighted hues.
ReplyDeleteOh clever girl! I love how you modified the globe grid just a bit and topped it off with that woven looking X like a wrapper on a big cheese! So different from your usual work in color, and a really beautiful result. On to your trademark colored tiles - where do I start??? The Fandango is so SOLID! It reminds me of those beautiful posters of workers done in the 30s. Your peaches are just so warm and rosy looking and your Hollibaugh is truly spectacular! I love the way you created color auras around the shapes. So lovely! By the way, I figured out my comment problem has to do with Windows 10. I have to create my blog post in Internet Explorer, but then in order to leave comments on anything, even replies on my own blog, I need to switch to the Edge browser. Inconvenient, but glad I know!
ReplyDeleteNice response to the Diva's challenge. I did what you did and drew a circle in a sketch book---in my case, after messing up a zendala tile. I really like the way N'zepple looks on your globe grid.
ReplyDeleteHehehe...I was so sure I was going to screw it up at any minute, hence the sketchbook-then I'd invested so much time on it I didn't want to start again;-)
DeleteYour globe looks pretty, even in black and white ;-)
ReplyDeleteIn your other work I really loves those 'earth colours' combined with the patterns. Happy peaches is my favorite!
Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! GREAT!!!! FANTASTIC!!!
ReplyDeleteI don`t find more words for this amazing tiles! The IAST tile is my absolute favourite.
I agree with Simone :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! your pile of hollibaugh in the string thing tile.... the dramatic coloring and highlighting. Just delicious!
